History of the Library

The East Williston Public Library was established in May 1937 with an appropriation by the Village Board. The Library was on the second floor of the Village Hall until 1951, when the building was remodeled. Mayor Frank E. Devlin, who supervised the rebuilding, made sure that the library would have adequate and attractive quarters within the limits of the available space and budget. As a result, the much-admired Library is on the first floor of the Village Hall, with a charming colonial atmosphere.

A permanent charter was granted to the Library February 29, 1952, by the University of the State of New York. The library joined the Nassau County Library System on September 25, 1967.
